'Browsing through the Newpapers: The Status of Sanitation in Nepal' a booklet published by in the seventh edition specially includes news features of the epidemic in the mid and far western region. Similarly, many news highligting efforts made towards sanitation promotion has also been given space.
When this publication was first published in 2005, the print media hardly gave space to water and sanitation news. But, coming to this stage, the whole scenario has changed. According to the 'media monitoring analysis' done collaboratively by Federation of Nepali Journalists and Nepal WASH Group from June - November 2009, the 13 Nepali daily newspapers published two thousand seven hundred water and sanitation related news, of them 90% materials were found to be sanitation related. The outspread of the epidemic has been identified as a the lead cause behind this. In the past, sanitation which was a subject that was least talked about in the media, this year has been higlighted through news, editorials, special features etc. This is quite encouraging.
