Water Quality
"Nepal Water for Health" as its name; equally believes in supplying potable water. Bacteriological test, Iron and Arsenic test are the major tests carried out for accessing the quality of water at community level. Bacteriological testing is carried out with the most modern and WHO accepted field test kit called Del Agua. NEWAH also has its proven design of iron removal treatment plan. These are constructed at places unavoidable. Similarly NEWAH has its own field test kits for arsenic test that has accuracy up to 10 ppb (parts per billion). For further accuracy the samples are also tested using AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrometer) by hiring a private organization that has a capability of testing using AAS. Arsenic content if found more than 50 ppb (South Asian Limit), the tube wells are not considered acceptable for drinking purposes. Thus such tube well is usually re-driven at some other locations nearby where there is less chances of arsenic contamination.
NEWAH has a pool of staff trained on water quality and their mitigation issues. NEWAH is the only institution in Nepal possessing water quality test labs in all developing regions of Nepal.
