Key activities

Mr. Pandey is responsible for managing the overall activities of the organisation in accordance with the Executive Committee's decision and in developing, promoting and representing the organisation's programme towards meeting its objectives. He also represents the Executive Committee of the organisation as its member-secretary. Umesh plays a crucial role in the development of the operational and administrative policy, strategies, procedures and guidelines of the organisation ensuring its implementation. Reviewing and developing the management structure of the organisation and overseeing its functioning by closely coordinating with HQ and regional offices is also one of his key functions. Along with the identification and initiation of dialogue and processes for possible funding sources for the organisation, his responsibility also includes maintaining cordial relationships with all NEWAH donors and sector stakeholders. He represents the organisation in various National and International forums and is the national coordinator of Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) national chapter.

Background

Umesh Pandey has a Masters in Economics from Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu. He entered into the water and sanitation sector as a project coordinator for the Water and Sanitation project of WaterAid / Social Service Coordination Council in 1989. Since the formation of Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH) a Nepali NGO in 1992 to take over and give continuity to the work of WaterAid and the council, he has been appointed the Director of the organisation. Pandey also well versed in writing has worked as and editor /publisher of 'The National Times' a vernacular daily in the past. He is also a well known singer in the country.
